Athletics day

We did a athletics day we went to the sports park and did the 200m, 100m, 50m hurdles, long jump, high jump and softball throw. There was a extra which was the 800m.

Here is my 800m recount
Ready...Set...GO!!!!!! Yells Miss Hill. We all go as we get near to where Mr G is standing we start to come close the metal bar that surrounds the inner field as we go around the track I start to pass
people as I start my 2 second lap I run down one of the sides I pass Josh as I turn the corner someone pass’s me as I come down the last few meters to the the finish line some girls are go along the side of the track saying the places as we run and as I crossed the line I come 8th.

Reflection for

Something I was pleased with was doing the 800m.

                            

Because I came 8th out of year 6 boys(some), year 5 boys(some).

I really enjoyed learning how to do the high jump.

                   

Because the high jump is hard to do.

Something I found hard was doing the high jump.

Because I got over the first time but the second time I knocked it.

Something that made me think was how to do the high jump

Because if you got part of your body over you still had the over side of your body to get over.

Something I want to get better at is 800m so I get faster.

What can I do about it?

Question/Goal/ problem

What shape of container will hold the most weight ?

Hypothesis (The shape I have chosen and why I think it is the best shape)

The shape Dylan and me have decided on it a cube because it is tall and wide.

Materials

Container filled with water, modelling clay, old coins

Method (What I did)

Create a boat out of modelling clay.

I Fill the container with water.

Place the boat carefully onto the water so it floats.

One at a time , put coins carefully into the boat . Count how many coins are in the boat before it sinks.

Observation/ Analyse (What happened and why I think it happened)

We placed our cube in the water it sank right away and went under. It was properly it was too heavy.

Conclusion  (What I discovered about floating/ sinking )

The more its spread out the more it has less weight but if it is in a lump it would go straight to the bottom of the container.

Mathletics Poster 2013

We have been doing Mathletics here is my reflection and design hope you like it.

 Reflection for

Something I was pleased with it turned out how I wanted it to.

                            

Because I wanted design 6 in the middle of the square with a ring around it.  

I really enjoyed learning how straight lines can make a curve.

                   

Because I never noticed how straight lines make a curve.

Something I found hard was using a compass.

Because it had to start at the same line at each side of design 6.

Something that made me think was to get straight lines.

Because If I didn’t get straight lines it could look untidy.

Something I want to get better at is using a compass.

Something that I can do about it:

Maybe use it more often at home.

Race a speedboat

Race a Speedboat

Can you make a paper boat race across the water just by gently touching the surface of the water?

Hypothesis (What I think will happen)

When we touch the water the dishwashing liquid will make bubbles from the dishwashing liquid and will pop and make the boat move.

Materials

Coloured card, washing up liquid, pencil or sharpie, scissors, large container of water.

Method (What we did)

We placed a boat we had made from just coloured paper. Then we put our finger in the water with the dishwashing Liquid and it starts to go to the other side of the container.

Observation (What happened)

We placed the boat on the water, then we placed our finger in the dishwashing liquid and the boat went to the of side of the container.

Conclusion (Why I think it happened)

The dishwashing liquid makes a force between the Paper pushing it away.

Go on move!

Short Experiment to Follow Up

Make Metal Float

Gently place a paperclip on the water’s surface.

Hypothesis (What I think will happen)

just like a boat it will making some water go around it

Observation (What happened)

Someone gently placed the paperclip in the water making like a dint in the water.  

Conclusion (Why I think it happened)

I think an air bubble forms in the middle of the the paperclip but it sinks a little bit.

No Why? I don’t think air has weight because it isn’t a living thing.

What will happen:

The newspaper screwed up: The paper will go to the ground with the ruler.

The newspaper flat: The paper will still be on the table but the ruler will fall to the ground or snap.

What happened:

Someone karate chops the ruler and the air pushes down the newspaper that makes the ruler snap or fall to the ground.

Predict: will the paper stay dry? Yes

Why? Because it it is like a air bubble it will keeps out the water. That would be the same with the jar.

Observe: Someone pushes down a jar with a paper towel in the jar and then pulls it up.

Explain: When the Jar is going into the water a cushion of air forms at the top of the Jar which is facing down to keep the paper towel dry.

Ozzie Kingsford because he has a is the Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather and he was famous explorer he dropped down dead, deep in the Amazon jungle.

Agent Black Part 2

One little light is on in the cargo hold of Speed Bens underwater base.

“Hey Speed Ben come check this out,” I say as Speed Ben comes in.

“What's the problem” says Speed Ben

“the motors leaked of the spaceship.” I replie  

“Hey what's this dark minion doing in the seat of the speed bike!” says speed Ben

“It’s a robot that can spy on the dark minions but now that they are dead we don’t need it” I replied to him. BANG!

“Its fixed” I say, I get up and walk along the corridors of the base I stop outside my room and enter the code.* It slides open and I enter.

The Next Morning we meet in the meeting room .

“This is Armor Man and Armor Bot they are new super robots that can help us to fight Four eyes.”

“I have been getting rays of a beacon that is coming from Four eyes tracker from this I can see where he is at the moment” I say.

“Which means we can see where he is” Speed Ben says

“Lets go get Four eyes!” We all shout, a bit later we are all on my helicopter.

“He is on Island of death near Camp shark. He has made the base under the island into a base.” I say as we get into my high tech jetpacks. We go flying down a hole, dodging traps. We reach the bottom of the hole. The first thing we could see was a huge cannon pointing at us, and who would be standing behind it was Four eyes!

“I’ve been waiting for you” Four Eyes said. Before we could move out of the way he fired the cannon that hit us hard which forced us into the wall. With the Jetpacks broken we couldn't get away.

“HAHA!!! This is fun” says Four Eyes. He fires the cannon again but this time we just jump out of the way. Speed Ben and I lauch at Four eyes hitting him in the chest and face.

“OWW” yells Four eyes.

“YOU HIT ME IN THE EYE I’M GOING TO CRUSH YOU” YELLS Four Eyes. CREAK! Suddenly a Monster drops down that looks like a Creeper but muted with a Zombie.* It went charging at Speed Ben and me we attack it using my sword and Speed was using all there’s combs. But still the Munted is still strong.

“Agent Black I know how to beat the Munted we need to get the cannon and blast it with the cannon” Speed Ben yells.

“Ok I’ll distract For Eyes and you can get the cannon” I reply to Speed Ben. At that point we realise that Four Eyes is no longer in the room. Them at the same time we see him at a window and looks worried maybe because he left the cannon in the room we were in. Speed Ben gos charging at the cannon, but when he is about to reach the cannon out of nowhere the Munted jumps in the way. Then it uses a special attack spitting out TNT. Which explodes right in front of us knocking us back...

Reflection for Yachting

Something I was pleased with was that we didn’t capsize the yacht because I didn’t want to go into the water.

I really enjoyed learning how to sail a Optimist Yacht because I have never been in an Optimist Yacht before.

Something I found hard was keeping the mainsheet(rope) in my hand because I needed not to make it so loose.

Something that made me think was how to work the rudder because if you wanted to go right you had to make the rudder point left.

Something I want to get better at is steering.

Before kayaking with the interschool cross country team.

There was a seal on the rocks I made a red line around the seal.
