Fitness

jump-rope-clip-art1.gif

We are comparing our resting heart rate to our heart rate after exercise.

You can easily check your pulse on the inside of your wrist, below your thumb, or on the side of your neck where your carotid artery is. Gently place 2 fingers, usually your index and middle fingers of your other hand on this artery. Do not use your thumb, because it has its own pulse that you may feel. Count the beats for 30 seconds, and then double the result to get the number of beats per minute. Ex: I counted 36 in 30 seconds so my resting heart rate is 72 beats per minute. Write it down on your sheet of paper. - record it on the table below when you have finished.

Why advertising on T.V is better than the internet

Why Advertising on T.V is better than Advertising on the internet from Room16 Parkvale on Vimeo.

Letter to Mr G

Principal Mark Gifkins
Parkvale School
Howard Street
Hastings

Dear Mr G,

I'm writing to let you know that Market day was a huge success. I had a great time selling our product which was the frutti tutti dolphins made by our class, room 6 and our buddy class room 3.

It was great to see the big kids working well together with the little kids. The little kids were included in everything by making the product and then selling the product with the big kids.  Big kids were often buddied up with a younger child to help then and support them with choosing what to buy on the day.

It was great for the whole school to do something together with everyone playing a part in making a healthy food snack.  The school has been buzzing with advertising and the excitement of classes making their healthy snack.  The market day was exciting for everyone and a great day with celebrating together.

It was a good idea to have classes market and sell a healthy snack because now they will be more aware of how healthy snacks can be fun and delicious. There were lots of good ideas for healthy snacks and people might start making them at home too.

I think a market day each year is a fantastic idea to bring the school together.

Yours Sincerely

boat.gif

I was in my bathtub paddling out to sea. After a hour or so I stopped paddling because I had noticed some dark and evil clouds on the horizon and I knew I was in for a surprise...

A STORM!!! I started to turn around but it was too late.I was in the middle of a water spout*. I tried to paddle away but the waterspout was too strong it was sucking me. I started to lift up I had a bad feeling about this. I started to go round and round up and up. I was getting dizzy. As I was going around I could feel the spray of the water on my face. The water was freezing but it kept me awake with my wits about me. When I got to the top I was shot off down towards the water as the impact happened. I woke up startled it was only a dream. That is why you never use a bathtub as a boat.

1. Apple Device
2. Boom Beach(Will need to download Boom Beach from App Store it is free)

How to play:

  1. Turn on apple device and the first thing you do is tap on Boom Beach.
  2. When it loads a man will pop up and says “Hello there are you here to defeat the evil Black Guard.”
  3. When the man says “what will our base be called.
  4. Then you buy a Sniper tower, Residence*, Gold Storage and a Radar.
  5. After you have brought all of them the Evil Blackguard will attack you.
  6. First he will fire his gun boat 3 times at your sniper tower then he will send in his riflemen and they will attack the sniper tower. But the Sniper Tower will shoot back at the riflemen.
  7. When The Riflemen are defeat the Evil blackguard will say “You have won this time but it is not over.”
  8. The next thing you do is train some riflemen by tapping on your landing boat and then tapping on the riflemen which is the only thing that you can get.
  9. After you have trained the riflemen you tap on the compass in the bottom right corner.
  10. Then you have to tap on a cloud that has gold and a amount of gold you tap on that and then it will reveal some of the Blackguards base’s.
  11. You tap on the one you can scout out the base or you can attack which will cost 250 gold to attack it.
  12. When you attack you can fire your gunboat at the Blackguards defense or you can tap somewhere on the beach to make your landing boats land on the beach to attack.
  13. As you uncover more base to attack you will to upgrade your Radar.
  14. The game will never end even if you free all the island the Blackguard will keep taking over the island you have freed.

Adverting Slide Show

Math Challenge

Our Challenge was to make a open box from a 20 cm by 20 cm piece of paper by cutting our four squares in the corners and folding the flaps. We had to make a box hold the biggest volume of box you can make. I made a  box with 3 cm by 3 cm square corner flaps for a practice and then a 1 cm square flaps. Here they are.

The Best Part of Me

The Best Part of me

The best part about me is my legs. They are long, lean and are built for speed. They are muscular and white with knobbly knees splat, right in the middle of my legs.

My legs carry me around all day, to and from school and all around the place. They race me around many muddy Cross Country courses. They power my bike and shoot me across the pool in a  triathlon.

Other people probably think they look pretty scrawny but they don’t know the power hidden inside. My legs are like my dads and I like them like that.

Interschool Cross Country

Reflection for Interschool Cross Country
Something I was pleased with was coming 17th because I came 48th last year so it was a big improvement.
I really enjoyed learning when I should tailgate when it is a head wind and when it is a tailwind.

Something I found hard was sprinting at the finish.

Something I want to get better at is running.

Production Reflection

Reflection for the Production Journey Through The Legends

Something I was pleased with was getting to act on the last night. Because I was in Rarotonga for the other nights.
I really enjoyed learning how was to throw my voice. Because if I didn't no one at the back would hear me.

Something I found hard was being loud. Because I am quiet sometimes.
Something that made me think  was if I would do good.
Something I want to get better at is being louder.

My favorite part of the production was standing up and staying my lines.

My best bit of feedback for the production was from Mum. She said to me that “Great stuff buddy and keep it up!”

Battle For Sting Part 1

                                                      CHAPTER 1
Marvin walked with his thin grey cloak dragging across the stone floor. He walked slowly up the stone passage leading to the throne room. He took his seat next to Paul his Elder brother. The Marble floor looked very dim in the storm. Nobody looked happy to him. Marvin himself wasn't happy either. Because he knew what this meeting was about.

‘All the people are fearful of the war coming up’ said Paul. ‘Even some of our soldiers are’ added Marvin. ‘This time the goblins and pesky trolls are attacking us’ said Paul. ‘So this means we need to gather all the local builders and weapon masters along with soldiers’ he said. ‘So men get all the soldiers weapons and builders with repairers and healing doctors you can’ Paul said. ‘That is your work tonight we shall call an end to this meeting for now’ he said.

For the next two years builders were designing and building walls, cannons, machine guns and tanks. They called in the best swordsmen and archers and even some of the greatest wizards and knights to guard the castle of Sting. Sting is an ancient crystal that is hidden deep in the furnace room guarded by fifty archers and fifty knights. It is nearly impossible to steal It that's what the goblins and trolls have come for the crystal gold silver leather for their clothing and gems. These things are all well guarded.

Two years later all the troops were there and all the defense was built. The castle really had been done up. All the loot was deep down guarded with archers wizards and swordsmen all the locals from town had volunteered to be maids archers and servants or nurse but most of the men had got in line for swordsmen. They were all ready to battle all they had to do was wait until they attacked. Marvin was holding a sword, he was nervous but excited.

The time had come. The battle shall begin any moment now. Marvin thought. In the distance there was little green misty creatures running. ‘That must be those little goblins’ said Marvin to a nearby archer. ‘Oh them I have came across many of them they do take a few arrows to kill’ she said. From the nearby hills you could see trolls 12 feet trudging towards you. Their beards were thick black and there sideburns had streaks of ginger in them. Their hands looked thick and they were smeared in dirt or coal. They had big hammers in their hands.

All our air balloon men released into the sky showering the trolls with bombs. Some of the biggest meanest trolls survived the bombing but the little ones dropped dead. The misty little goblins crept up and tried to make it past our machine guns. The goblins used their magic to freeze some machine guns but soon the weapon masters had defrosted the guns. While the defense weapons were busy shooting the goblins the trolls had reached the castle all the troops clattered down after the trolls.

The army leaders called the security rocket launches they aimed at the trolls. 3,2,1 a missile fired BOOM It blew all the trolls up. The troops were relieved that they didn't have to attack those trolls anymore. The maids carried the trolls to the furnace and burnt their bodies. The sight looked like flames ripping the flesh out of giant humans.

All the troops returned to their set positions. All the air balloons were hovering over the goblins.  The air balloons were showering the goblins with bombs. Goblins scrambled for shelter so they didn't get blown off their feet with TNT or bombs. The parachute were enjoying throwing bombs at the nasty goblins.

The trolls and goblins were all finished off. They had done around 7 percent damage to the castle. All the builders finished fixing the Palace. All the troops rested for tomorrow's battle. I wonder what troops they will attack with tomorrow will the use troops or won't they?

To Be Continued...

Matariki Workshops Kite Making

On Tuesday the 10th we did work shops we also learnt that Matariki means face of god. It is also the Maori new year. This is my Writing about Kite making which is one of the workshops we did.
As I walk into the hall I see Flax and two other things on the ground to one side of the hall. One was Fluffy and the other was brown with some black spots here and there on it. We quickly learnt that the fluffy stuff was Toi Toi and the brown with the black spots was Harakeke. We had to get to into groups of three. I end up with James and Kory we get sent to a table. Louise says “get 4 pieces of Toi Toi which is the fluffy things one person from each group.”
“I’ll go get It” Kory says.

“Ok” me and James reply. Kory comes back with Toi Toi. We tie two pieces of Toi Toi together using the flax string we had made before we got the Toi Toi. We tied at both ends and in the middle. The next step we had to do was put the other pieces of Toi Toi as a triangle and tie it at the top where the ends of the Toi Toi met. Next thing we had to do was get a cross bar which was a stem of a Toi Toi across the other Toi Toi. We have to tie the Toi Toi cross bar to the Toi Toi that are facing down. Me and James hold the top of each Toi Toi when Kory is tieing the bottoms of the Toi Toi. One of the parents helping cut us a crossbar that goes across near the top of the Toi Toi. James and I hold one side when Kory is on the other side tying it together and we swap sides and do it again. Then we had to tie Harakeke with the flax string we had made with flax. At first we tied them separately but then a parent shows us how to do more with one piece of flax string, by criss crossing the flax other and under then back up again. If you did the middle first it was easier then doing the sides first. I ended up doing it. We finished the kite and had a photo with everyone else that had done kite making in the morning. What a great experience for me and everyone!
